sunday night rewind

For those still holding out hope that I’ll blog more consistently, I’ve set a weekly goal of 4 posts.  (I’m taking it one week at a time, since my recent history has been less than stellar.)  Also, last week’s SNR was skipped because Amanda and I “skipped” church for a cruise, so the post would have consisted of:

  • sat on beach
  • floated in ocean
  • sat on beach
  • ate steak
  • sat by pool
  • went to sleep

Yes, it was AWESOME!

Enough procrastinating – we launched a new series this Sunday titled “I Wish Jesus Hadn’t Said…” where we’ll be unpacking some of the difficult and controversial statements that Jesus left us to ponder and live out.  This morning Byron tackled “love your enemies.”  It’s one thing to say you love your enemies, it’s another thing to live as though you do.  Here were my notes:

  • The command to love our enemies was birthed in the Old Testament and lived out by Jesus.
  • Our goal is not to have a specific love for our enemies, but to have a love SO GREAT that is embraces our enemies.
  • The first requirement for loving your enemies is to forgive them.
  • Be willing to “throw away your trump card,” aka release your past hurts.
  • Unforgiveness will change the very nature of who you are.
  • There’s only one thing that costs more than forgiveness – choosing not to forgive.

There’s not a person alive who doesn’t struggle with this.  I’m praying God does a work in all of our lives as we look at our ace of spades this week and choose to love.
