new wheels

As I mentioned yesterday, after:

  • 12 years
  • 112,000 miles
  • 20+ oil changes
  • a few driveway fender benders
  • a mystery oil leak that req’d 6 quarts of oil every few thousand miles
  • and a whole lot of good memories

I finally traded in the 96 Corolla for some new wheels.  Overall the car was amazing.  It was a gift from my late grandfather when my Nissan Sentra caught on fire on the way back to Florida State my senior year and it provided for a great car with no payments.  However, all chapters come to an end, and to be honest…I really like the new chapter.

My wife and I had established a budget and narrowed it down to two cars - a silver ’05 Altima with 40K miles or a black ’04 Volvo s60 with 60K miles.  We went with the Volvo for a number of reasons:

  • it looks awesome (Barry)
  • it got great safety ratings (Amanda)
  • it’s a TURBO (Barry)
  • there’s room for all three kids in the back seat (Amanda)
  • the “nice car” is no longer our mini-van (both of us!)

(not our actual car, but I haven’t taken a picture yet)

Tomorrow I’ll provide some rules we’ve established for buying cars that might be helpful - until then, happy driving!

Sweet ride Barry. I love the newer volvos. Now….I will be compiling a list of modifications to compliment that turbo until we yank it for a larger turbo or twin turbos….I love cars….I miss my Mustang :(

You deserve it. Didn’t you have a car in high school that the steering wheel came off?

Josh - you know you loved that Corolla. It’s too bad I traded it in - I would have offered you a sweet deal.

Chris - you lost me at modifications - remember, this is a FAMILY car! (I love having friends that know cars!)

Leigh Ann - I think that was Helsby. I had the Buick Park Avenue where the horn wouldn’t turn off and I had to cut the wires in the steering column. Now that was a sweet ride!

I saw a video of some guys that wired their friends horn to the brakes. Now that was funny when he pulled up behind someone at a stop sign…..
