cowboy junkies and the church
Question of the day: What do the Cowboy Junkies and the church have in common? According to this post from Seth Godin, apparently a lot more than I thought.
This paradox is so true in the church. If we’re not careful, we as leaders can easily succumb to the wants and desires of the “old fans” and lose sight of our mission, which is to bring in “new fans.” Jesus could have built a successful organization by choosing the top Pharisees of his day. But he didn’t want to build an organization, he wanted to build a church. So what did he do? He went out and got “new fans” that included a tax collector, some fisherman, and few other outsiders.
And then what did Jesus tell them to do? Go get some more fans! In fact, scour the earth for new fans.
