Jesus on Leadership – Part 1

May 30, 2007

For some reason, leadership and structure in most churches is influenced more by man-made tradition and western democratic thought than by Jesus. Now, don’t get me wrong, biblical traditions are a vital part of the church. Baptism and communion are two great traditions that we share with Christians from centuries past. But man-made traditions are [...]

May 29, 2007

So I’ve been blogging for a couple of weeks now, and yesterday (Memorial Day) was the first day I didn’t post. I felt guilty. I need to blog every day. I’ve got a responsibility. What if someone reads it and I’ve offered them no new nuggets of wisdom?
I just experienced [...]

sunday night rewind

May 28, 2007

Today’s services were awesome! We changed up the format by having 5 stations throughout the worship center with communion, giving baskets, and prayer cards. We did our singing at the end of the service and allowed people to move to the stations as they felt led. It was a good reminder that [...]

what’s missing?

May 26, 2007

What’s missing from the picture below?

That’s right – TRAINING WHEELS! Emma learned to ride her bike today in about 30 minutes. It was amazing. But it didn’t come without some injuries.

hornet’s nest

May 26, 2007

Last weekend my daughter Emma was stung on the hand by a hornet. Apparently, a nest had fallen out of the tree near our playgound, and they took it out on her. I immediately sprayed the nest, leaving them to die.
Today I checked the nest to ensure the spray had done its job. It had [...]

derek webb

May 25, 2007

Just listened to Derek Webb’s new record, The Ringing Bell. I was reminded what a great songwriter he is. If you need a little acoustic folk mixed with some thought-provoking lyrics, there’s no one better. You can’t go wrong with any of his records. My personal favorite is Mockingbird – I’ll [...]

lost

May 24, 2007

John Locke is back, baby!
Was that a flash forward I just witnessed?
What happened to Jack?

The writers did a great job of answering questions and still creating more tension. Way to redeem the season – can’t wait for season 4.

bored?

May 23, 2007

If love covers a multitude of sins, boredom leads to a multitude of sins.
I just got word that a pastor in our area has up and left with his secretary, leaving in his wake his wife, children, and church. How does someone called to tell people about the abundant life of Jesus squander the very [...]
